A rare "document" from over eighty years ago - a scare pamphlet on white slavery and prostitution. The traffic in girls: white slavery as now practiced in America, including detailed descriptions of the customs and manners of the white women slaves and waves of Asia, Turkey, Egypt, etc. The unnamed authors overstate their case a bit: "It is doubtful if ever in the history of civilization was waged such a fight as is being fought to-day for the preservation of the country's good name and against the unspeakable traffic in girls, known as White Slavery."

The pamphlet was obviously designed and marketed to capitalize on the prurient interest in white slavery. The cover price of ONE DOLLAR was a bit outrageous for a pamphlet of this size printed on cheap paper; a hefty magazine with a lot of interesting content and photographs usually cost 50 cents or less. Although the pamphlet is undated (and uncredited as far as author and publisher go) the illustrations on the cover and inside picturing "loose women" and ne'er-do-well men seem to be of no later than 1920, so it could even be earlier.

This is a rare one; I've found that a very few other copies do exist, but sellers who have one want an outrageous fortune for it. Pamphlet size is 5-1/4" x 7-3/4" and it's in EXCELLENT condition.
