This is a rare perspective of the British view and even their out right dislike for the Father of our Country George Washington. Even some of their jealousy and regret shows through in this one.
THIS NEWSPAPER IS FROM THE BRITISH SIDE AND IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NEWS COVERAGE OF THE THIS MOST IMPORTANT OF WARS TO OUR NATION. The coverage in this paper is so important THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT OF WHAT IS FOUND IN THIS RARE PIECE OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR HISTORY:
The following; shows the British perspective and lack of respect for this greatest of men- General George Washington-
"An officer in the Kings army in America who had been acquainted with the Marquis de la Fayette at Paris, at a meeting on the North River, found an opportunity to renew their acquaintance and to converse with him on the subject of the American War. "Pray my dear Marquis tell me what to you think of this American Business? My dear friend I look upon Mr. Washington as a very honest man and no more. But let me tell you in your ear, any man but Howe would have beaten Washington, and any General but Washington would have beaten Howe.
Another excerpt in this scarce paper speaks of Washington resting his army and going South with a few select officers.....
The following is a small excerpt of that story-
Private letters that came from America by way of ship to England state the following- "Every thing was quiet in the neighborhood of New York, that General Washington had left his army in winter Quarters in the Jerseys and was gone to the South with a few select officers, probably with a view to put himself at the head of the troops that had been raised in Georgia and the Carolina's to make head against Brigadier General Campbell...."
