8 EXCEEDINGLY UNCOMMON HARD BOARD BACKED PHOTOGRAPHS. PHOTOGRAPHS BY Giorgio Sommer -
Giorgio Sommer (1834-1914) was born in Frankfurt am Main (in modern day Germany), and became one of Europe's most important and prolific photographers of the 19th century. Active from 1857 to 1888, he produced thousands of images of archeological ruins, landscapes, art objects and portraits.
8 paste down hard board backed RARE PHOTOGRAPHIC PLATES. MEASUREMENTS- ROYAL QUARTO measuring approx (12½ inches x 10 inches.) from each board edge to the other, photo themselves measure approx. 10 inches by 8 inches. Photos on their original boards.
STUNNING AND APPEALING TO THE EYE, EACH OF THESE RARE PLATES DATES TO THE 1860S. THEY ARE WONDERFUL TO BEHOLD AND ARE QUITE UNCOMMON. THEY ARE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY EACH ON THEIR ORIGINAL HARD BOARD. READ TO FRAME IF SO DESIRED.
CONDITION: EACH PHOTOGRAPH IS IN WONDERFUL CONDITION FOR ITS TIME, affixed to their original backing boards the boards have just some slight edge and corner wear, the sepia photos still to this day bring out the magnificence of their subject matter.
