Hardcover & Dust Jacket 424 pages
According to the author, this book is intended "primarily, but not exclusively for the architect, the civil, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineer, the industrial designer, or other industrial executive- in short, for those who maty see in glass a unique and versatile material, interesting in its own right, and full of unexplored possibilities for creating products and improving production methods." Yet the language used is simple and understandable, and the book may be read with profit by those who have only a general interest in the subject, and do not wish to apply the information to particular problems of their own. The volume covers the history and technology of glass making, from the earliest days to the present, giving the chemistry, mechanical and physical properties of glass, handling of materials, and details of glass working up to the final inspection of the finished product. Part II which deals with the application of glass, tells of its uses in architecture and building construction, in the home, in electrical transmission and communication, in illumination, in manufacture, in science and research, and in fiber glass. The book is thoroughly and strikingly illustrated throughout.
The book is signed by C. J. Phillips who was the head of the Corning Glass Works, Corning, New York. This is a MYNOTERA FEATURED AUCTION, and can be viewed on display at the Mynotera Bookstore, 65 E.
