I WANT TO KNOW
Besides a great "Airplane" cover by Howard V. Brown,
this issue has some special things to offer even beyond the normal great content
on vintage radio equipment- AVIATION and TELEVISION. Although
the Aviation articles incorporate radio to a good degree, the "Up and Going" and
"New Wings for Young Americans" articles are most interesting. The former
article forecasted where modern commercial aviation was headed. The latter is all
about GLIDERS. There is even a photo of Amelia Earhart
in a glider!
When you think about television, you're probably not
thinking 1920s (even late 1920s) although a few experimental television sets
were manufactured. This article is about RCA's daily experimental
television broadcasts in New York City starting in March 1929 over
station W2XBS. The 60-line transmissions consisted of pictures, signs, and views
of persons and objects. Experimental broadcasts continued to 1931. The
article is also accompanied by photographs.
There is plenty more in this vintage Radio News
Magazine though- How to Build (various equipment) with schematics and
instructions; New Radio Products; a List of All the Broadcast Station Call
Letters; plus great illustrated ads for radios, components, and much more.
Many of the pre-1930 issues of Radio News are scarce
and worthy collectibles. This one happens to be in really good condition too,
complete and intact with only a little wear at the spine ends.
