The International Textbook Company founded in 1895 by publisher Thomas J. Foster in Scranton, PA, published numerous instructional papers, booklets, and textbooks for its' subsidiary department the International Correspondence Schools for many skills and trades. Many men and women who didn't have the means for schooling past grade 8 in the first half of the 20th century can thank them for their vision. I.C.S. and other later schools such as The American School of Correspondence in Chicago, IL provided a way to gain practical knowledge that could better their earning potential without quitting work for 3–4 years.
These books were geared around learning at first the basics for a particular field, then advancing on to the more specific knowledge needed for a trade or profession. For those seeking to become architects, acquiring the skill to realize architectural design drawing first required a basis in geometrical drawing. (Geometrical Drawing is also a basic skill in other areas, such as mathematics, art and engineering, and those courses also contained geometrical drawing as a basis.) In architectural design, Freehand Drawing is also an important skill to acquire, as well as Elements of Perspective.
The book really becomes specialized in the content on Historical Ornamental Drawing, Architectural Drawing and Advanced Architectural Drawing. Only by having background in the basic skills could a student hope to master the techniques required to develop these advanced skills.
This book is no casual survey. it is a complete, comprehensive and detaled practical book on architectural drawing. The book is PROFUSELY ILLUSTRATED. The few illustrations you see here only hint at its contents. The I. C. S. Architectural Drawing books can be hard to find, aren't cheap and are an outstanding value in the "THREE AND BELOW" category.
